The University of Connecticut’s Department of Marine Sciences seeks candidates
for the position of Research Assistant I/II to assist in the conduct of research
on circulation and mixing in the coastal ocean. Responsibilities will include
the design, deployment, and maintenance of moored monitoring arrays; assisting
in the processing and analysis of oceanographic data; executing field operations
and supporting scientific diving operations; managing and maintaining
oceanographic equipment used in field surveys. This is a one-year grant funded
position with renewal contingent on funding.
Minimum Qualification: B.S. in a physical science and experience working in the
marine environment; knowledge of scientific programming and the interfacing of
computers and instruments; ability to work effectively at sea in small vessels
and collaborate with faculty and students.
Preferred Qualifications: SCUBA certification; experience operating small boats;
experience working with oceanographic instruments (e.g. CTDs, current meters).
