WIND TURBINE AERODYNAMICS: A STATE-OF-THE-ART
The objective of this Lecture Series is to review the state-of-the-art in current wind turbine technologies and set the perspectives for new potentials in terms of R&D.
Date: March 19, 2007 - March 23, 2007
Location: von Karman Institute, Chaussee de Waterloo 72, 1640 Rhode-St-Genese, Belgium
Web Page: http://www.vki.ac.be/educat/lect-ser/index.html
Contact Email: secretariat@vki.ac.be
Organizer: von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics
Application Areas: Environmental
Special Fields: Adaptivity
Type of Event: Conference, International

Description:

The evolution of modern wind turbines is a remarkable
story of engineering and scientific skill. Over the last
20 years, the cost of wind energy has been steadily
reduced and power has increased by a factor of 100.
Technically, all categories of turbines are, to a varying
degree, on the frontier of technology research. The
objective of this Lecture Series is to review the state-of-
the-art in current wind turbine technologies and set the
perspectives for new potentials in terms of R&D. World
experts will present the fundamentals of ground wind
conditions, the detailed aerodynamic and structural design
issues, advances in experimental testing and condition
monitoring, cold climate and icing problems, etc. Future
research areas will be addressed in a concluding session
on new potentials for wind turbines.
