The first example highlighted will be an FSI problem involving a 3D sailplane wing. The flow solution from FLUENT and the structural solution from ANSYS communicate via SCAI’s MpCCI routine. The presenters will show how the flow variables and the structural stresses/deformations can be visualized and animated at the same time using Tecplot 360.
The second example will be a store separation from a delta wing at supersonic speed. On the solver side, the motion of the store will be computed using FLUENT’s built- in 6DOF solver. Shocks will be captured using dynamic adaption (local refinement of the mesh), and the dynamic mesh will handle the spring deformation and any local remeshing necessary to accommodate the movement of the store within the domain. Tecplot 360’s animation capabilities will be used to visualize the mesh motion, the flow variables, and the shock surfaces.
About the Presenters:
Christoph Hiemcke, PhD, Fluent Inc/ANSYS, Inc.
Dr. Hiemcke joined Fluent Inc. in June 2001 and supported CFD users in the aerospace industry for four years. He now develops validations and cases for demonstrating our software's capabilities for aerospace applications. His areas of expertise include dynamic mesh problems, transonic and supersonic flows, and traveling wave problems. Dr. Hiemcke received his PhD from Iowa State University. He worked for seven years as a professor in the electromechanical engineering department of Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa.
Durrell Rittenberg, PhD, Tecplot
Durrell Rittenberg received his PhD in magneto- chemistry from the University of Utah. He began working with Tecplot in Bellevue, WA in 2001, where he was the lead technical account manager. His work focused on working with users and prospective companies to enhance their visualization capabilities. He has delivered countless Tecplot training courses on a variety of technical disciplines. Currently, he is the Director of Sales.
