International Summer School: Direct Numerical Simulations (D.N.S) of Reacting and Two-Phase Flows
This is a rare opportunity to hear from instructors who
are leading figures and all experts in DNS, numerical
methods and associated physical models, about the latest
developments and application of DNS in reacting and two-
phase flows, as well as to gain experience of a variety of
It will be 5 days of full teaching and 2 days of get-
together, with the aim to foster exchange and
communication between the participants during and after
the Summer School.

| Type of Event:
The primary focus will be on the theory, implementation
and choice of models in the DNS of reacting and two-phase
flows. It is intended for researchers as well as code
developers (PhD students or R&D engineers) interested in
understanding and implementing DNS methods, or simply in
acquiring a better background on the topic in order to
assess its possible contribution to problem solving.
Lecture topics will include, among others:
-DNS and LES of turbulent flames, model development
-(Reduced) Population Balance Models for two-phase
flows and chemical engineering applications.
-Numerical aspects of DNS – spectral methods and low-
Mach number vs. Compressible formulations.
-DNS of two-phase flows for spray combustion Numerical
modeling issues associated with two-phase flows
-DNS of two-phase flows involving a solid phase
-DNS of two-phase flows for chemical engineering
-Model reduction and computational efficiency for DNS
The instructors are all experts in DNS, numerical methods,
and associated physical models. All lectures will be given
in English, with extensive notes handed out.
The Summer-School can accommodate a maximum of 40
participants. Places will be delivered on a first-come,
first-served basis. It is therefore highly recommended to
register as soon as possible. Students and ERCOFTAC
members will benefit from reduced fees.
Further information, concerning registration modalities,
detailed program, instructors and lecture topics,
accommodation and vital contact persons is available on
the attached flyer and on the official DNS Summer School
We will be pleased if you could forward this information e-
mail to all those for whom this School could be of
interest. The flyer can also be used to advertise the
We hope to see you soon in Berlin.
