Virtual Intracranial Stenting Challenge 2011 (VISC11)
Virtual Intracranial Stenting Challenge (VISC) is an international initiative whose aim is to establish the reproducibility of state-of-the-art haemodynamical simulation techniques in subject-specific stented models of intracranial aneurysms (IAs)

Special Fields: Experimental Fluid Dynamics
Deadlines: August 7, 2011 (abstract)
Type of Event: Other, International

Description:

The objective of the 5th Virtual Intracranial Stenting Challenge is to assess the ability of engineering teams with expertise in computational hemodynamics in providing clinical partners with valuable pre-treatment information. This year challenge is supported by Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) data of a benchmark aneurysm case. The PIV data will be used to determine the accuracy and reproducibility of the CFD models developed by the groups participating at the 5th virtual intracranial stenting challenge (VISC11). The VISC11 will be carried out over the next 4 weeks and will be presented during a moderated poster session in occasion of the 8th International Interdisciplinary Cerebrovascular Symposium (www.ics11.org) to be held on September 8th-11th 2011 in Shanghai, China. The teams interested in participating to the challenge will be given access to patient and stent data and 3D geometries, and will be expected to perform 3D CFD simulation, possibly using the provided flow information. The output of each team will be an independent analysis illustrating advantages and disadvantages of each endovasculature treatments. The results will be provided to the VISC committee in the format specified in the guidelines. Deadline for results submission will be August 7th 2011. Please visit the VISC11 website (www.cistib.upf.edu/visc11) and register to the challenge to obtain access rights to the patient and stent data. We anticipate that the interaction between teams to jointly achieve the goals of the challenge is encouraged. Please feel free to contact Salvatore Cito (salvatore.cito@upf.edu) should you have any comment or doubt.
