Job Record #128
TitlePhD student in Reactive Flow Simulation
CategoryPhD Studentship
EmployerUniversity of Technology Freiberg
LocationGermany, Freiberg
InternationalYes, international applications are welcome
Closure Date* None *
Description:
We invite applications for several open positions for PhD students in the
research group “Reactive Flow Systems” within the Centre for Innovation
Competence “VIRTUHCON – Virtual High Temperature Conversion Processes”
established at University of Technology Bergakademie Freiberg, Department of
Mechanical, Process and Energy Engineering.

At the VIRTUHCON centre three research groups focus on the improved scientific
understanding and the development of new technologies in the fields of energy
and material conversion. The research is based on numerical modeling, simulation
and virtualization of high temperature conversion processes. The centre is
placed in an excellent interdisciplinary research environment with outstanding
contacts between university and industry.

The research group “Reactive Flow systems” investigates high temperature
conversion processes occurring during gasification of coal/wood/natural gas and
production of pig iron by direct reduction. The main focus is the modeling and
simulation of single and multi-phase turbulent flows and their interaction with
homogeneous and heterogeneous chemical reactions. Another important research
topic is the development and application of virtualization methods.

Candidates should have a Diploma/MSc degree (willing to earn a PhD
degree) in engineering or natural sciences (e.g. mechanical or chemical
engineering, energy sciences, physical chemistry, metallurgy, computer science
or similar). First experience in numerical fluid dynamics and simulation,
knowledge of at least one of the CFD solvers CFX, OpenFOAM or Fluent, basic
knowledge of Unix/Linux and at least one of the programming languages Fortran, C
or C++ is preferred.

The positions are all funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research
and appointments will therefore be made on a fixed term basis for up to five years.

Information about the centre and the strategy concept can be found at
