BELLEVUE, Wash.—(April 9, 2009)—Tecplot, Inc. President and CEO Mike Peery has been inducted into Oregon State University’s Academy of Distinguished Engineers. This honor is given annually by the university’s College of Engineering to recognize exceptional engineering alumni and their career accomplishments.

“As a student at Oregon State, I knew I was getting a great education and worked hard to make the most of it,” said Peery. “But it wasn’t until I went for my master’s that I began to fully appreciate how well OSU had prepared me for grad school and for the success to follow. I’ll always be grateful for what my professors and the school gave me.”

Peery has more than 30 years of technical and managerial experience in the development of software products for computational fluid dynamics analysis and data visualization. He earned his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Oregon State University; and received a master’s degree from Stanford University, also in mechanical engineering.

He began his career at the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory, where he performed fluid and thermal analyses primarily in support of a nuclear reactor safety program. Later, at Boeing, Peery developed and applied advanced Navier-Stokes flow analysis simulation codes as part of the Boeing 747 program. He then went on to found Tecplot, Inc. with fellow engineer Don Roberts.

Today, Tecplot, Inc. is a leader in the field of visualization. The company has more than 45,000 users worldwide and major customers including BMW, Boeing, Chevron, GE, Lawrence Livermore Laboratories, Lockheed Martin, NASA, Marathon Oil, Pratt & Whitney, and Sandia National Laboratories. Last year, the company reported its 20th consecutively profitable year, and just closed a record first quarter for 2009.

“I’ve always been proud of how well our team has managed the business, but most especially as we are moving through the present economic turmoil,” said Peery. “Part of it is due to our steady commitment to doing what’s right for our customers, our community, and our team. And we don’t take anything for granted: we plan for both best-case and worst-case scenarios. I guess you could just call that good old-fashioned business practices.”

Peery is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and a former chairperson of the Propulsion Technical Committee of the ASME Aerospace Division.
