Flow Science Recipient of Intel’s Voyager Award at SC 11

SANTA FE, NEW MEXICO, November 23, 2011. Flow Science, a leader in CFD software development, was a recent honoree of the Intel® Cluster Ready Voyager Award, part of the Intel Cluster Ready Partner Appreciation Awards at SC 11. The Voyager Awards recognize those organizations that have contributed to Intel Cluster Ready advancement, total available market growth and helped penetrate the much sought after but elusive “missing middle” for customers moving to cluster-based solutions.

"The 2011 Intel Cluster Ready Partner Appreciation Awards acknowledge those partners taking HPC higher and leading the Intel® Cluster Ready Program into new territories. These awards acknowledge Intel Fellow Travelers who've taken on the exciting adventure of exploring new technologies and moving the industry forward and…upward," said Kathleen Ellertson, the Global Marketing Manager for Intel Cluster Ready.

Flow Science has also partnered with Silicon Mechanics to develop a Cluster Solutions Guide that will provide cluster solutions to customers. Currently, Flow Science is working with Silicon Mechanics to deliver clusters based on the future Intel® Xeon® processor E5 family.

“The historically complex hardware and software choices available in cluster configurations present a significant challenge to customers hoping to move to our cluster-enabled FLOW-3D/MP solver. Customers buying clusters are accustomed to and expect the relatively simple process associated with buying workstation hardware and software. The Intel Cluster Ready Program has simplified the cluster hardware and software selection process to ensure that FLOW-3D/MP, which is Intel Cluster Ready-registered, will work out of the box with Intel Cluster Ready-certified hardware. Our partnership with Silicon Mechanics further simplifies this process by providing our customers with a one-stop shopping experience,” commented John Ditter, Flow Science’s VP of Software Engineering.

Flow Science uses many Intel SSG products to continuously improve the accuracy and performance of their general-purpose CFD software, FLOW-3D, which comes in three HPC versions - OpenMP, MPI and the recently-released hybrid MPI-OpenMP. Using the hybrid approach to parallelization, a speed-up of up to 60 times over the serial version of FLOW-3D has been achieved with the latest release of FLOW-3D/MP.
