max mesh element size
Hello All,

I have few basic questions regarding ICEM tet meshing.

1. How do we decide on the maximum element size on any surface?
2. How is maximum element size of 8 with scale factor 1 is differnt from maximum element size 4 with scale factor 2?
3. Is there any way to produce volume mesh with density gradient (fine near the surface and coarse in the center) ?
4. what are the key factors to be taken care to keep the total mesh size low?

5. When I merge tet mesh with he mesh, I struggle to get a good mesh quality. how do we make sure the mesh sizes are close to each other in tet and hex mesh.

will appreciate the help.

I would like to suggest you to take a look on ICEM CFD 14.0 workshop (tutorials + files + lectures) available on ANSYS web site

If any one need these workshops, send me an email (For email id look on left side :). not yours:p, of this page. ;))

could you provide a link because to find some specific issues on website is everything but easy.

By the way is there a possibility to set the max. element size for an existing mesh respectively Pre-Mesh?
Because I would like to avoid to click an every edge and set the "Edge-Parameters".

I don't know of any way to set the curve parameters based on blocking... Just the other way around.

Do you know how to set a parameter that ensures that the maximum element size of my mesh (structured mesh) is 0.02?

How would you do that in general?
The only way I know of is to set the pre-mesh parameters of every edge in that way that the max. size is not exceeded.

The way you are supposed to setup for hexa is set the max sizes on all the surfaces (or parts)... Then under blocking => Premesh parameters, choose the first option to update sizes... This transfers the sizes from the geometry to blocking in such a way that the surface sizing sets the max size on any edge that crosses it.

The default intial spacing and blocking law can be set in the hexa settings.

Then as a second level of control, you can select and adjust any particular edge...

right - I didn't do "update all" ... thanks for the reminder
