Abrupt Contraction: Meshing and Boundaries
I am trying to mesh an abrtupt contraction in a pipe (3D) with solely hexahedral elements whilst still maintaining good orthogonal quality. Due to the automatic meshing system of Ansys Meshing the mesh does not behave the way I would want it to and I would need help in optimising it. I added a picture of the current mesh as a thumbnail.
Furthermore I would need assistance with the boundary conditions of the system as I do not know how to treat the contraction walls as impervious. I chose all the outer faces (except inlet and outlet) as a named selection and set the velocity in Fluent to be 0 m/s on the boundary but still after calculation the plots showed fluid gushing out of the annular face at the contraction.

If you want to have more control with AM then one option is to slice your geometry into sub-parts so that the meshing tool could handle it like you expect your mesh.
You can either slice by plane of with sketches depending on the complexity of your model.
