ANSYS 13 - DesignModeler sketching problem
 
Hello everybody,

I would like to ask you if you know a solution for the problem that I faced today. I have to introduce a 2D figure with a lot of smooth lines in ANSYS for its further analysis. The smooth boundaries I sketch with "spline". After a large amount of smooth curves (~100 units) sketched I noticed that ANSYS took more and more time to draw next splines (this is the time between the right mouse button click with further "closed end" choice and the moment when the drawn spline appears on the sketch).
I have a feeling that ANSYS 13.0 automatically regenerates all the lines when I introduce something new into the sketch. Is it possible to switch off this option and to accelerate it somehow (may be perform the generation when the sketch is completely finished)?
Right now it takes about 1 minute to introduce a new spline into the model and I need about 100 more... And the time will increase (I really don't want to spend a day waiting for the response from ANSYS).

P.S. I have already tried to separate the entire model into several subsections. It was not a successful trial.

I dont know the option in DM to avoid regeneration each time. But you can try like this.

Exit from the current sketch in DM. In the same plane, create the new sketch and project the previous splines in to this new sketch. And continue to add further splines in the latest sketch. Then see is it really improve the regeneration speed?

It might be workaround. But try and let me how it is works for you:)

This is what I exactly tried to describe in my P.S.

I created a new sketch and tried to draw the rest. The next step would be just to form a new part from these separate sketches (i.e. bind them) and I would have the desired body. It would be even easier than you proposal, I guess.

But it didn't work... Moreover, I could say that the duplication from 1 sketch to another would have any effect since it creates an enormous amount of transfer connections between the new and old sketches.

Anyway, thanks for the reply and I'm still searching for new ideas

Another possibility that I'm trying to use: sketch in a CAD software (AutoCAD Mechanical 2010) and then transfer the finished geometry into ANSYS 13.0 Mechanical.

You are right. CAD softwares are better for complex geometries. I think using any of CAD package is the better option for your model.

I'm still searching for the file format (i.e. software) that can be imported in ANSYS as 2D sketch, not a 3D body (e.g. AutoCAD supports only 3D body transfer to ANSYS). I have read something about SolidWorks, but I don't have it on my PC now.

If anybody is interested in the solution that I have found:

I sketched the complex geometry in AutoCAD 2012 and then exported the sketch as .sat. This format can be imported in ANSYS 14.0.

Novosiberian, I am working on a paddle-wheel in ansys fluent but I need to redesign the geometry with curve-like shape as with turbine blades,my geometry now is straight blades, but thinking with curve blades, I can generate more from the paddles (In 2D). please how do i go about this curves in ansys as the splines aren't giving me desired geometry.
