Problems adjusting a structured grid to a new baffle geometry
Hi,
I want to adjust an existing grid to a baffle that I implemented in the Geometry. But I don't have any idea how to do this - it seems more or less impossible. What do you think how to do this? Should I stay with structured mesh or use unstructured? I didn't follow that. Do you want to adjust a previous blocking (form a similar topology) to a new geometry?!

you are right. I have an existing blocking and I want to adjust this blocking to a new geometry. The difference between the new and old geometry is the baffle. I can't see how it could work...so I hoped that some here has an idea...? |
do the outer and inner cylinder still have the same diameter?
so only thing you want to do is to insert two additional baffles? if so, take your blocking, split at the new created surfaces and align edges to curves . do the membranes break through these baffles!? |

the diameter of the inner and outer cylinder don't change. What I am trying to do is to adjust the blocking (Modellierung2.blk) to the geometry (Modellierung2.tin). The geometry I've posted already contains the new geometry. I'm sorry, I made myself not so clear in this point. At contactpoints the membranes break through the baffles. |

it would be easier to use your previous (original) geometry and just transform geometry (e.g. copy cover disc geometry of your cylinder with a specified offset in y-direction to the place, where the baffles should be), and then split your blocking at these new surfaces. There's a option to copy projection. But you can also use a new geometry (.tin-file). But here, you have the problem, that there are no assignments at all (no edge to curve projection etc). So this would be much more hassle. Just give me a feedback, if it won't work and I'll take a deeper look at it tomorrow. Greetings Christoph |
is there any heat transfer through the baffle? then you have to create a fluid/fluid domain interface with thin material option and no slip wall. Otherwise (with solid domain) you'll get mesh problems.

I want to do analysis of heat transfer from water flowing through pipes submerged inside concrete. I am modelling in GAMBIT and wish to analyse it on Ansys FLUENT. Can anybody help me out, how to model and simulate? Does any tutorials exist? |

The blocking looks good (at least I think so...). In front I'm working with OpenFoam for the simulationpart so I doubt that I can give you a good advise.
But what I noticed on your picture is that there is no grid within the pipes - correct? Possibility 1) If you want to simulate the heat-transfer of for example from a fluid running through the pipes into the concrete you will also need a mesh for the fluid in the pipes. This means you will have a two-phase model. Possibility 2) It might be possible to set a constant temperature at the borders of the pipes. This might be less precise (denpending on the precision level you need and the physics (velocity, heattransfer-coefficient, etc.) but easier because you need no 2-phase modelling. --> These are just some guesses, I really do not have any experience with AnsysFluent. I just can guess from what I know from OpenFoam --> One thing about what data to provide: usually the users (especially the more experienced) demand more information meaning they want files so that they can open your case on their computers. |

I have no idea about how to simulate flow of fluid in the pipes (based on possibility 1, but this is the best one as even i am thinking on). But, I dont think the possibility works out as the fluid temperature varies from place to place as it flows. Will the cfd-online allow me to upload the case files? And, can you get me my problem solved if you know anyone on fluent? |
