How to convert a grid node to a vertex?

Hi

I have a complex geometry which has been generated by stereolithography (STL file). The thing is that the whole geometry is just one surface while I need to define some parts as inlet and outlet. What I have in my mind is to put some vertices on those related faces of my interest and create a plane (or face) and then move on toward the rest of it; but the problem is that I don't know the right coordination to put the vertices. I have meshed my surface and am sure that my face of interest (shown with a green circle and arrow in the attached image) is completely planar and I could tangent a surface on it but I do not know how! Does anyone have an idea?

Thanks

the question is: is your volume virtual or real?
Because the handling may be quite laborious with virtual, but you can try this:
If you want to add your circle as imprinted circle on your surface mesh, then create your circle away (and normal) to your surface, and finally try to project your circle on your surface by enabling split option, and giving the right vector (that's why I mentionned "normal" earlier).

I gave it a try but it didn't work! It reflects an error saying: "Cannot project at the given location because the rsult would be a degenerate edge." FYI, my volume is a virtual one because I couldn't make it with real option. (First I had just a closed surface and then I split it into two arbitrary surfaces using a rectangle; then I created a virtual volume using those two surfaces. Selecting "real" didn't work!).

Thanks

Can you provide me your dbs file?

Sure; can you give me your email address?

edge projection doesn't work properly and you can do something by projecting parts of edges (circle).
Maybe you need to work on the stl file with a cad package and then reimport in Gambit

Thank you mAx. I will try in CAD to see what happens.
