What is the shape parameter in "Create Conic Arc" tool ?

Hi everyone

I was trying to create a conic arc which passes through 3 points using the tool in Gambit with an exact value of eccentricity ( 0 to infinity, 1 is a parabola, greater than 1 for hyperbolas), however, the tool in Gambit does not allow me to enter the eccentric value. Instead, it asks for a number called shape parameter (0.01 to 0.99, 0.5 is a parabola, hyperbola is between 0.5 and 0.99). Is there a way for me to convert between the two quantities ?

Thanks

Do you have a sketch of what you want to draw?

Basically I have 2 points and their midpoint is the center of the ellipses. I need to plot ellipses which pass through those two points with the symetry axis make a 45 degrees angle with the line connecting the two points and I need to vary the eccentricity of these ellipses.

So how should I put the shoulder point to make the symetry axis tiled 45 degrees ?

I would use ellipse surface tool

fix one radius, and le vary the other radius

Because I am going to plot the hyperbola and parabola in later part of my project, thus, I need to use the conic section tool
