how to subtract a surface body from a solid body?
How to subtract a surface body that lies inside a solid body from the whole solid body..when I try to do this I get the following error: "Error: Operation would result in non-manifold bodies."

Any suggestions?

Well, a surface body has no volume, so you aren't really subtracting anything. More information might help us help you

with easy geometries you can try surface from edge or face (i don't remember if face exists...) and then i sew these surfaces together. i have never tried that on round geometries like a sphere tough...

here something you can also do, it worked for me once, export your geometry in STEP file.
open it in ICEM CFD, export it again, then import it in designmodeler...
