Default Unstructured Domain Split

I'm trying to create a plane which divides my box-shaped domain such that I can create a prism layer on either side of the plane. Two fluids will be modeled on either side in Fluent. In ICEM I just need the plane to grow the prisms and then I can delete the plane and its shell elements.

Whether I create the plane and its edges and points in DesignModeler or ICEM, I get a multiple edges error using build topology and cannot remedy the problem. If I mesh, I get single/multiple edge problems as well as holes along the exterior edges. I'm not sure if the edge problems will give Fluent trouble but I'm not understanding why holes are present.

Is there a more straightforward way to approach this problem? In case it makes a difference - I'm using unstructured elements.

Thanks in advance

Unfortunately I'm unable to attach images - ICEM is on a different system - but simply put, I have a box which, for meshing purposes only, I'd like to split in half such that I can create a prism region on either side of the split. I can delete the split surface or plane and its shells after meshing is complete.

When importing the geometry from DM into ICEM and running build topology, the edges (running along the exterior boundary of the domain) of this surface appear yellow.

My question is what would be a more straightforward method for splitting the domain for this purpose?

In lieu of images I hope this helps. Thanks for your reply Far.

First off, the plane should create a multiple edge. A multiple edge is just a "T" connection between the temporary middle plane and the walls. It is not an error, it is a possible problem. In your case, it is expected, so don't worry about it.

For the second problem, I am guessing that you tried to fix the first one and ended up deleting the elements around the edge (the multiple edge elements), so now you have single edge elements.

Try again, just ignore the multiple edge error and you will be fine. Not only could fluent have handled it without a problem, you will end up deleting those surface elements after your prisms are generated and not have it at all by the time you send your mesh to Fluent.

Best regards,

Simon

Simon the approach I have used is relevant or not to the question asked? Because I am able to generate prisms on the both sides of intermediate wall and Fluent has no problem with it. I have two different fluids as well. May be I am missing the whole concept?

Hey Far, you are fine...

Mememomo needed some help

I just didn't think your response addressed his concern about multiple and single edges.

Best regards,

Simon

@ Simon

I didn't mean that. I am new to tetra meshing. So trying to ask many questions. As your responses always helped me.

Thank you both -

Yes, Far - the image you gave is exactly what I'm looking for.

I was able to successfully mesh after creating the lines and plane and proceeding. Multiple edges aren't typical for the meshes I'm used to so thanks much for the info PSYMN.
