"The mesh file exporter does not support overlapping geometry in named selections"
 
I'm meshing rotor/stator type geometry in ANSYS Workbench Meshing.

First, I grouped the rotor/stator geometry inside Design Modeler so that they form "multi-body part"; I was hoping to get automatic conformal mesh when I do the meshing inside Workbench meshing.

Then inside Workbench meshing, I did the meshing; perfectly, the interfaces got the same mesh. And then I named them in "Named Selections" such as "interface_rotor_domain" and "interface_tank_domain". And then, when I tried to export this mesh to a Fluent mesh *.msh file, the error message pops up:

" The mesh file exporter does not support overlapping geometry in named selections. ...."

I checked again and again, and I even deleted the old named selections to re-do the naming to make sure I'm not naming the same geometry to multiple names. But still, the error message persists.

I had the feeling that the "multi-body part" is causing trouble here... as a previous post by PSYMN suggested, maybe we shouldn't use "multi-body part"; rather, just mesh the two bodies separately.

by the way, I am using ANSYS 14.0.


I feel ANSYS should be smarter than this. This is really annoying.

update:

I went back to unbundle my rotor and stator bodies, meaning let them be separate parts rather than one "multi-body part", and now I can have separate named selections for each side of the interface and there is no "mesh file exporter does not support overlapping geometry" error when I export to a *.msh file.

Then again, to be able to generating matching mesh for the two sides of rotor and stator domain, as PSYMN once suggested, we have to either use "match" or specify the same size control on them. Not exactly "conformal" mesh, but "aligned" mesh.
