3D Unstructured MESHING

2 Attachment(s)
Hi All,
I am new to ICEM and after a few days of reading the manuals and going through many threads in the forum, i have kind of been able to form my mesh(unstructured) for the benchmark case of flow past the cylinder. As you can see from the images, I have used prism to form meshes around the cylinder and also density mesh around the same area. The flow direction is + X. The mesh sizes are assigned using the part mesh and i have tried to change the size of the part meshes, but there was not much change. I have now assigned only 6 layers for the prism and still there is a problem with how the meshes are divided as they go further. I actually want more layers but then the mesh gets worse.
Can anyone please help with me what i can do to improve the mesh?

I will first simulate a uniform flow condition for a low Reynolds number. Later i want to investigate with a higher Reynolds number. In that case to capture the vortices should i extend the prism meshes further down the wake field?

Waiting for a reply

Thanks in advance
Arun

would you mind if i ask why you not try structured mesh for a simple geometry like this ?

arun7328 February 11, 2013 12:05

Thanks for you reply.
This case is just to help me learn and simulate a simple problem using ICEM/Fluent. The actual problem i will be tackling is different and i have to use unstructured mesh. So i am just using the same for this problem.

Also :) my supervisor said.

Can you guide me?

why you have these curve here ??

ya, i am working on the mesh and realized that could be the problem. It is because i have divided the surface in that way to give more points on the circle.

Not sure what is an alternative though?

Arun

this is a just a simple geometry to perform test on it. would you mind sharing ? so i and others can investigate the problem ?

Hi there,

Thank you. I have uploaded 3 file the .prj,.uns and.tin.
Hope you will be able to view it.

please use any free file hosting website that doesn't requires registration. i don't have access to shared4 as i'm not member. use dropbox. it is useful for everything !!

diamondx February 11, 2013 14:25

you don't have to join the uns file and the mesh just the project is fine...

arun7328 February 11, 2013 15:39

Hi ,

I have attached it in dropbox and shared with u.

Thanks
Arun

diamondx February 11, 2013 15:41

thank you very much, another thing by prj, i mean tin file too because it contains the geometry. sorry for being demanding...

arun7328 February 11, 2013 15:52

I have attached. Come on you are trying to help me. Its my bad.

Arun

diamondx February 11, 2013 16:03

yes it is because of those curves you need to delete them

diamondx February 11, 2013 16:08

problem fixed, the project is saved...

arun7328 February 11, 2013 16:37

Can you please tell me what you did? I cannot view it now. I can only see it tomorrow. What was the mistake i did?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Regards
Arun
