Why must create plan and sketch?
Hi all,
I am new to CFD and am learning ANSYS DM. Can any kind soul please tell me when and why I must create a plan and then a sketch for almost every new line I intended to draw? By following the tutorials I still don't get that how and how far it will negatively affect the later steps (surface/solid generation/operations), will it? I have little experience with simple CAD drawing but it doesn't help at all. Thank you in advance! |
What are you drawing?..
Perhaps you are making it more complicated than it could be |
Hi Jrunsten,
I haven't have my own geometry. I am still following the tutorials and try to understand the drawing operations. But I get confused at this very first plane and sketch thing. For example a 2D tutorial require me to create a plane and a lot of sketches, while I can just draw directly if using other CAD software. A 3D tutorial need a plane whenever I need to draw something that is not on the same plane, while intuitively with a suitable (x,y,z) coordinate I should be able to position drawings in a 3D space directly... |
Things will get 3d later. you better start with a plane so you can decide where to extrude. that the basic step of drawing... when one draws a cube, he does not enter the coordinates of the 8 corners , then link them with a line and then create a surface and then a volume... see how long it is... instead, one draws a square (on a plane) then extrude it along the z direction...
