[ICEM] Icem creates unwanted boundaries

Hi,
we use Icem 5.0 together with CFX 5.7 at my company. Every once in a while, without apparent pattern a few "artificial" boundaries appear when I import the mesh created in Icem into CFX Pre. Normally it's around a few elements within the body of the domain (image attached).

The mesh in Icem looks perfectly fine, so I'm not sure whether this is a problem in Icem or in Pre.

Any idea what could be the cause of this?

Hi Wolfram,

I have experienced this problem in the past when importing meshes with hanging nodes into CFX. Can you run a full diagnostic check on your mesh in ICEM before exporting?

CFX does support the one-to-three refinement.

I think I have identified the problem: it arises when I produce a prism layer on the surfaces. The diagnostic from the mesh checker is "Uncovered faces".

When I fix the problem Icem creates a boundary around the elements, which is (apparently) exactly what CFX does when it gets a mesh with uncovered faces.

I searched CFD Online forums for that error, but none of the proposed solutions worked.

My idea would be to delete the affected elements, and somehow re-mesh that part of the volume. Problem is that I can't efficiently identify the elements in order to delete them.

Any ideas?
