Meshing 2D

1 Attachment(s)
Hi all,

From the attachment, I face some problem in meshing the top part of the channel. I am interested in meshing 2D, thus I would like to mesh the top part of the channel as a single rectangular cell instead of a rectangular cell containing two triangles, as shown from the attachment. Any help on this is much appreciated. Thanks and looking forward to your response.

Cheers
Francis

Look into sweep meshing. One element in sweep direction

Thanks for the reply. I am also interested to apply inflation near the wall. The sweep method seems not compatible with inflation method, may I know is there any alternative way to do it?

Right click on the sweep method and choose "inflate this method".
When sweeping you inflate a face from an edge, then sweep that face through the body. This is not the same as other methods where you inflate a body by selecting the wall surfaces.

Hi, could you explain why we need block after drawing the geometry, before the mesh? Thanks

Far April 19, 2013 17:08

Blocking means you are subdividing your volume into smaller blocks which can be mapped mesh.

OK. Thank you for your reply.

after pre-mesh in ICEM

Hello,

I met a problem after I finish my mesh. After I pre-mesh it, and I 'loading from block', in the command window, it says
'Unloaded unstructured domain
--- Unloading existing mesh
Loading domain "hex.uns" ...
domain has 0 nodes'

Does anyone know why, and where I have made the mistake? I am looking forward to your reply. Thank you.

Far April 20, 2013 10:42

Right click on premesh and choose option "convert to unstructured mesh"

tita I would suggest you to open new thread on your problem.

ok___ko April 20, 2013 11:02

well, I am sorry for that, I am new here, but I know how to open new thread now.

And thanks for your answer,it has nodes now, but hexas=0, and I cannot import the mesh into FLUENT, and in the fluent command, it says 'Error: Null Domain Pointer'.
Do you know why?

Far April 20, 2013 11:04

It is 2d case? Did you choose 2d option while exporting mesh? are you opening this mesh in 2d version of Fluent?

ok___ko April 20, 2013 11:18

yes, I have already choose 2D in the FLUENT. But it still cannot be imported.

hi everybody,

could you inform detailly about sweep mesh ?,and also when apply inflation layer, skewness increases, what do i do now?

thanks.
