Shell meshing with respect line elements

i've got a surface quad mesh from a blocking i did. i want to generate a tri surface mesh while respecting the nodes position so they can me merged automatically. the option "respect line elements" is checked on. but it does not work the nodes are still independent as shown in the picture. is it normal ?
