Dear mates,

I want to generate hexa mesh around a 3-D simple wing by ICEM. I have constructed the blocks correctly (I think!) but grid is not generated. I need your help to figure out what the problem is. Simon & Far, I think you can resolve the problem. I have attached my project files and an image.

Thanks

Hi,

There are few problems which should be rectified:

1. No of nodes are very few.

2. Delete block(s) inside wing or change its material

3. Create o-grid inside the wing tip which extends into far field.

Dear Far,

thanks for replying,

I could get your point concerning deleting block inside the wing. But two other points are not clear to me.
I have already constructed an O-grid from tip toward the far-field (as your tutorial in youtube).
Please tell me why I should increase No. of points on the wing? (and how?)

I think you intended to say that there are not enough MESH points on the edges, am I right?!

I think the problem is with the inner face of O-block inside the wing tip. mesh is not generated for that region at the wing root and outer far-field block face.
But the wing tip is totally mesh-less (even the O-grid around the inner face). Why is that so?! Have any Idea??

Dear Far,

thanks to your comments I could generate the grid properly, now my problem is with boundary conditions. I know how to define BC in 2-D. But in a 3D case I have no experiences. I have tried to build 6 parts by 6 corresponding surfaces of the domain (a cube). Then I have associated the block faces to these 6 surfaces. I think this is a right method but is very time consuming.
Is there any better and shorter way to define BC in a 3D geometry?!

Thanks

Do not associate faces to surfaces. It is done by icem by default.

So how does Fluent recognize the BC faces?! Shouldn't we associate any elements? what about edges or vertices?!

It will. However you have to associate edges and vertices to curves and points respectively.
