Impeller Meshing

1 Attachment(s)
Hi,

I am trying to mesh an impeller using ansys meshing.

Whenever I use the advanced size function: On Proximity and Curvature, it gives the following error: "A software execution error occurred inside the mesher. The process suffered an unhandled exception or ran out of usable memory."

It works fine when I use the On Curvature setting.

I plan to use the MRF method.

The geometry was imported from solidworks as two seperate objects (.sat file) and i used the design modeller to subtract the impeller from the fluid region.

The same error also occurs when I use the patch independent Tetrahedron method. The On curvature setting works only when i use the Automatic Method.

A previous post suggested that i clear the generated data before meshing again, that didnt work for me.

Thanks for you help!

Did u find any solution? I have the same problem...

Tnx

I did not understand this.

If you importing or meshing geometries in parts for MFR it would not work.

The memory error could be due to the fact that your computer does not have enough memory to generate mesh for your case.

When you use Proximity and Curvature for meshing, the mesher tries to refine the mesh in the regions where higher gradients are anticipated. If you do not mention the mesh size and leave it to the mesher it take some default values. The mesher will then try to refine your local mesh as much as possible. Now this may be useless and unnecessary. Sometimes to achieve a higher order of refinement the mesher has to spend very long time for refinement.

Thanks for answering. you were right, my computer didn't have enough memory, i have solved the problem now.
Why would importing geometries in parts not work?
I had 3 parts, impeller, impeller fluid and the casing.
I subtracted the impeller from the impeller fluid and made an interface between the casing and the impeller fluid region. Is this wrong?
I have a thread regarding this http://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/flu...eneration.html
is this approach wrong ( the last post )?

Your approach is right. I meant that if you import geometries one-by-one it wont work.

Anyways its good that its working now.
