Hello everyone! What I am asking to you seems to be stupid for the majority of you, but not for me.

I started to use Icem cfd v.14 just some days ago. I have to do an unstructured mesh of an entire airplane. Is there a way to cut the airplane in two halves and use the symmetric properties? or have I to modify the geometry with a cad program and after import in icem the new geometry?
I have done the exercises in the tutorial, but the geometries were already cut.

ps. Sorry for my bad english. I hope I was clear enough.

diamondx will become famous soon enough
I Don't really think there is a tool to directly slice a geometry. But what your can do is create four point, connect them with a curve, and then create a surface. that surface will represent the plane of symmetry. of course the surface has to pass through your plane. next is to go to repair geometry -» build diagnotic topology and make sure you check "split surface at t-connection"...
what you will have is a fuselage slice where your plane surface is. next is to delete manually those surface, points, and curve.
Keep in mind that this option does not always always depending on the quality of the geometry and its complexity.
The other option is a quick pass through DESIGNMODELER and you the slice option...
Hope i was clear...

Thank you diamondx.
I have tryed to use build topology but, as you have already said, the best way is change the geometry.
Now I could start to create the mesh. Have you some advise to give to me? It's my first approach to this kind of analysis

You can use design modeller to cut model into two halves. I usually create enclousure (farfield) in DM and using symmetry I cut the whole domain into two halves. Only only half will be imported into the ICEM.
