error about volume splitting

Hi, everyone,

I've tried to use a virtual face to split a volume into two portions, but I always got the following message:

ERROR: Attempted to split volume volume.1 using face v_face.25 that doesn't divide it into two parts (has edges not common with the volume)

Does anybody know what happend? Thanks

you are trying to split a volume with a plane (or surface).
If it works with REAL entities, it won't with VIRTUAL.
So in your case, you need to split the edges with vertices. then split surface with previous vertices --> gambit will generate edges.
Finally create the surface you will need to split your volume (pick previous generated edges with wirefram), and split....
Hope I was clear

Thanks, very clear. By saying "create the surface you will need to split your volume", did you mean that I should create a real surface? I have already tried real surface to split the volume, but then it caused problems with the interface, I am just wondering whether it will be better, if I use a virtual surface to split the voume.

no, you need to create a virtual surface based on the virtual edges you generated (with splits)
