Hello guys.

I want to carry out some rotating parts analysis in fluent using Moving Reference Frames model. I made a conformal mesh in Ansys Meshing.
Now my question is: do I have to create some named selections for interfaces between domains, or with conformal mesh it is not needed and I just have to set domain velocities in cell zone conditions?
Or maybe I have to create non-conformal mesh to use MRF model?

Waiting for your response.

I have the same problem, I used non-conformal mesh when simulating an axial-turbine with the MRF-method. I reached convergence but I had some major pressure losses between some of the interfaces in the non-conformal mesh. I was recommended to do a conformal mesh but can't get i to work. Did you find a solution on this?

Hello,

I don't remember it very well because I was working on it almost 4 years ago.
But I remember that I made a non-conformal mesh separately for each domain in Ansys Meshing, exported it separately as independent meshes and I loaded them to Ansys Fluent. It was possible because they were created using the same coordinate system. Then it is necessary to set interfaces between these domains.

You dont have to name the interface with named selections. And you can assign velocity in the domain setup.

Wanna know that if i am going to simulate a rotating fan in a enclosure using mrf method, should I get conformal mesh? If yes, will there any contact region between the rotating body and the domain?
Another question is as shown in the figure, the velocity contour is it reasonable because it's look like discontinuous.

I know that you can have a non-conformal mesh. Don't know about conformal one.

Regarding your question about velocity field.
I think that your inner domain should be much longer.
I don't know which velocity (y-direction or a resultant velocity) field you've attached, but if you are applying rotation of the inner domain, the resultant velocity will be much higher in the inner domain than in the outer one - this can be the issue. Especially if the inner domain is so short.
