translating ICEM mesh while copying

Hi guys,

I have a 3d horizontal cylinder in a C-grid type domain. I have created hex using pre-mesh. Now I realized I should increase the domain in the span direction. So I figured I'd translate my already existing mesh with the copy option. I do that and all the parts are fine except the side planes. So naturally I get four side planes after translation. Two of them coincide (the middle ones). Each two side plane is assigned to ONE part. So I get two parts say Right and Left each of which has two planes associated with it. Is there a way I could create a new part assigned to the middle planes (the ones that coincide) so I still have one Left and one Right plane?

Are you talking about copying the geometry or blocking?

Yes, you can right click on parts in the model tree and create a new part, then just select the middle surface... Update the premesh and it will put the mesh in the name of the middle part. If you already have mesh, you can use the option to "Edit Mesh > Repair Mesh > Associate mesh with Geometry."

Of course, if you just wanted to make a straight pipe longer, you could have just scaled it in the one direction...

Thanks Simon. I've got the pre-mesh for half of the span. So I tried two different methods :
1. Copying the geometry then copying blocks (translating) then premeshing again
: This way didn't work as the pre-mesh turned out very messed up - not identical to the pre-mesh for the first half only - don't know why....Should I associated all the edges of the copied blocks to the geometry individually?

2. Since pre-mesh for half the geometry is fine. I created an unstructured mesh then copied the mesh by translation. I created a new part for the right-most plane and associated the elements there. So now I have the right planes but when I exported the mesh t cfx. The newly created plane (right-most) doesn't appear with the correct name, and there are two planes for the middle planes. I could use these two as a "conservative flux interface" but I was wondering if I could fix this problem from ICEM.

Thanks for suggestions in advance.
