Dear All,
I have project for my thesis. I'm trying to run simulation for water sloshing in water tank.
But i'm not sure when i mesh model in Gambit.

Step by step in Gambit:
1. Create Tank Geometry
2. Create Face
3. Create Mesh Edges
Type : Succesive Ratio
Ratio : 1
Spacing :40
4. Create Mesh Faces
Scheme :Apply
Elements :Quad
Type :Map
Smoother:None
Interval size : 1
5. Examine Mesh
Display Type:Range
2D Element
Quality Type:EquiAngle Skew
I got the worst element quality value 0,89254

6. Specify Boundary Types
all edges of tank are WALL
7. Specifiy Continuum Types
need i set this step?please give me advise
8. Export Mesh

Can anyone give me correction for the steps?I really need help for my thesis. Many Thanks all

There is lack of data: is your simulation 2d or 3d?
What are your specific problems?
If your question is related to continuum type, if you use vof, I would set 2 different continuum types (i.e. create 2 faces (if 2d) or 2 volumes (if 3d)), water and air: this will help you when you have to initialize the solution in fluent.

Hi Daniele,
Thanks for your quick response.
My thesis is 2D Simulation.First,I will make simulation for lateral sloshing force and moment in tank "without baffle" with 30%,50%,70% and 90% fill level of water in tank. Then,I will make sloshing simulation with different baffle design (horizontal,vertical,diagonal,horizontal-vertical) in tank with 30%,50%,70% and 90% fill level of water in tank. Finally, i get force and moment sloshing in tank for without baffle tank and tank with different baffle,I make comparison between sloshing in without baffle tank and with baffle tank and i know the best baffle design and effect of baffle on damping lateral fluid sloshing.

I will use VOF for my simulation.
for example,
for tank with 70% fill level of water, i will create stright edge on 70% tank height, then create face, bottom face for water and top face for air.Correct?

Many thanks Daniele

Yes correct,
however this is not necessary, as you can mark region (square) directly in fluent and patch that region after initializing.
For continuum type: if you split your domain into 2 regions, set 2 continuum types (water and air), if you don't split it, set a single continuum type (ex: water) and you will split the domain after in fluent as I wrote before.

Okey Daniele,
I think more effective spilt in Fluent, because i will use mesh file for different fill level in tank.
Many thanks Daniele,i will try to set continuum type, then we will discuss again
