Unstructure Meshing at the Wing Tip Surface from Imported Plot3D Structured Mesh

3 Attachment(s)
Hello,

I have imported a Plot3D mesh file into ICEM, that contains WING and Farfield. However the wing tip is not covered by a surface. My interest is to create a surface at the tip and generate mesh. After that I want to extrude all the quad elements from the wing tip plane.

I have followed the the steps as in this thread Unstructure Meshing Around Imported Plot3D Structured Mesh ICEM. I managed to generate the mesh that I want as it is shown in the attached figures.

Before I do the extrusion I wanted to check whether the wing tip surface is recognized by ICEM during writing output to fluent. Unfortunately,ICEM just skipping the wing tip elements, i.e the newly created quad elements at the wing tip. It says, Skipping part WINGTIP (not referenced by grid).

How can I resolve this problem?
Thanks for your help.

have you assigned a boundary for it in the output panel ?

Hi Ali,
Yes I did.

did you associate the part to blocking?

Hi Far,
I did not use blocking.

After I import the plot3d mesh, I created curves and surface at the tip of using the Edit/Mesh->Facets tool. After that I generate the mesh using the surface mesh tools by respecting the line elements at the tip of the wing.

if icem is creating mesh why it is not showing part in mesh...

Solution

Finally I am able to resolve my problem.

Rather than simply writing the wing tip surface elements to output, what I did was extruding this part together with other elements that are on the wing tip plane. This time ICEM did not skip any of the elements in the mesh.

I want to thank you those of you who tried to help.

can you please show some of the snapshots of initial case and final mesh you got!!!

Here are some snap shots: In the attachment you can ind the initial mesh before extrusion and final mesh after extrusion (Note that some elements are deleted for the purpose of illustration)
