wind turine blade periodic

Hello all,

I am trying to mesh a wind turbine blade using 120 degrees periodic conditions. The input that I have is the iges file which contains the whole blade geometry.I build all the required geometry using ICEM.

Because I have the whole blade i need to cut it at the periodic boundaries to match the periodic faces.

The problem is that when mesh generating(first cell at 1e-06) , volume orientation problems are created exactly at the root region(where the periodic meets the blade) where the blade geometry is almost a cylinder(I say that to imply that the blade geometry there is smooth).

Do I have to use a CAD preprocessor to create the cuts and the whole model and then use ICEM for meshing only or does ICEM can handle this kind of things?

I asking a kind of generic question because I am not sure whethere there is something wrong with the meshing params(blocking, bunching etc) or is a surface problem in generation of geometry.

I have the basic geometry in pictures attached for better understanding of my issue.

Any information would be really helpful.

Hello,

in ICEM, there is a feature to create curves by intersecting surfaces. With this curve you could trim surfaces of the blades base.
I can't check right now, there are two ways to trim these surfaces. creating curves with a curve feature or using a feature of the surface page.
