I wish to ask how should I actually increase the number of cells in my mesh? I tried changing the "face and element type" feature but it doesn't work.
Another issue is my mesh is in extension of ".msh" but I cant edit it with ICEM CFD. Is there any way that I can make it editable on ICEM CFD software? Thank you. |

It depends on the kind of mesh you have (hexa, tetra?)

Elements: Hex/Wedge
Type: Cooper I am trying to actually refine the mesh below to more numbers of cells to perform grid independence test. I used to work on Fluent and new to Gambit. And is it possible to edit this mesh using Ansys product v14.0? Thanks. |

for refining this kind of mesh,
you can perform refining on quad mesh (not source surfaces) and / or refinement on source surfaces (pave)

Do you mind give me a short tutorial on how I should do it? Because I tried with the operation using mesh volume but it seems it's not working. I tried to look for some tutorial on refining mesh but failed. thanks

That's why I asked for the kind of mesh.
With Cooper, you won't be able to refine the mesh within Volume Mesh Panel. You have to refine Surface Mesh. Here are Gambit Tutorials > https://www.sharcnet.ca/Software/Gam...uide/tgtoc.htm

Anyway, can I convert this gambit mesh to editable mesh used in ansys softwares such as icem cfd or built in ansys meshing? Thanks. I will look into it. |

*take a cube
mesh all the 6 faces with quad and element size 10 Now go and mesh the volume mesh by setting element size with 1 in Volume Mesh Panel Your volume mesh will have elements with size 10 (not 1) *take the same cube mesh all the 6 faces with quad and element size 1 Now go and mesh the volume mesh by setting element size with 10 in Volume Mesh Panel Your volume mesh will have elements with size 1 (not 10)

yes, you have to refine surface mesh again

Honestly, I don't understand what should I do with your tutorial. Can you explain more in details?
However, I tried another solution (will state it below) but I faced a warning where the 2 volume meshes of fluid are not mesh and not being exported. But I can see the number of cells on the face increases. Total number of cells decreases, might be due to the volume meshes error. Can I know why? I attached the before and after mesh plus the command for your reference as well. Thanks. Solution: Refining mesh Operation Toolpad > Mesh Command Button > Face Command Button > Delete Face mesh: In delete face mesh, uncheck 'remove unused lower mesh', select face by shift-clicking and click apply. Modify Edge Meshes Change number of division on vertical edges from 5 to 10, choose: Operation toolpad > Mesh command button > edge command button > mesh edges Select two vertical edges, then interval count from the box under spacing that says interval size, change the number of interval count box from 5 to 10. Make sure 'remove old mesh' is checked under Options. This ensures that old edge meshes are erased before the new edge meshes are created. Recreate Face Mesh Operation Toolpad > Mesh Command button > Face command button > Mesh Faces Shift-click on the face in Graphics window to select it. Then click apply. |

you asked for tutorial, so I gave you the tutorials
maybe you wanted a tutorial from me... From what you did: you only tried to refine in x-direction, but the cap surfaces are still meshed with same size than earlier. From your second picture it seems that your big volume ( the one you wanted to refine) is not meshed (only surfaces are meshed) If you want you can provide me your *.dbs file I will show you how to refine your mesh

Sorry, I don't have the .dbs file with me right now, but I can send you the .msh here first if you wish to have a try first, I will upload the .dbs in few hours time again. Yes please, a tutorial from you will be nice if possible. Thank you so much. Here is the link for mesh file in ".msh" extension. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/.../Mesh/mesh.msh |

Here you go. It will be nice to have personal tutorial from you on how should I refine on this mesh.
Hope to hear good news from you. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...ambit/Mesh.zip |

*Surface Mesh with pave and size 0.2 (surface 1 & 6 are picked)
*Volume Mesh with size 0.2 (volume 1 is picked and automatically as hex/cooper detected >> Total Element 10019 Untitled1.jpg *Surface Mesh with pave and size 0.1 (surface 1 & 6 are picked) *Volume Mesh with size 0.1 (volume 1 is picked and automatically as hex/cooper detected >> Total Element 84194 Untitled2.jpg

I tried by changing the surface mesh and volume with size interval of 0.2 but still failed. Below attached are what I did following your instructions. |

delete all volume mesh with lower geometry option enabled.
Then just work with fluid-5
