Meshing a sharp tip of an engine spinner

Hi guys!
Could you please advise as how to mesh the sharp tip of an engine spinner? My first attachment shows what I've got. Don't bother with element sizes, I've set a course mesh indeed. I reckon I should not split the block as I did in the 1st image and put the 4 vertices in a single point, that is, the tip. This would give me quite skewed elements, not good. A way out is to do something similar to my 2nd attachment. Now the question, how I make it? It's not mine and I can't quite figure his blocking strategy and how he managed to do it. I've been trying not successfully as my 3rd attachment shows. So, any ideas?! Cheers |

Hi Ghazlani,
Well, sort of, I've actualy done something to avoid this situation. I modified the CAD geometry and made the tip flat near the leading point so that I can simply mesh this new surface. I'm having some other issues though. Can I ask which is the right approach when performing a fully structured multi block mesh? My farfield is a semisphere, but my pre-mesh gets me overlapping and negative volume elements in the first o-grid (from the central block edges up to the outer bounday of the semisphere). Why does it happen? I mean, it's just a semisphere, shouldn't be a big deal. All the remaining looks fine when I check it, but the simpler part gets messed up. I realized that if I smooth the mesh, it takes me hours but gets me the farfield fixed. However, it messes with the geometry surface mesh (negative volume). Should I smooth the farfield o-grid first before keeping on with the blocking? Is it the usual approach? |
