ERROR: Cell occupy same volume

Dear all,

I am meshing a wing turbine and I get an error that cannot be fixed:

cells near -12265.405281 48379.697229 -24209.008910 occupy the same volume
cells 12836147 and 4352
face node numbers 9427288 9767767 10024514
opposite vertices 9469579 771539
cells near -12260.482605 48321.880394 -24225.794796 occupy the same volume
cells 4339 and 12249603
face node numbers 9767767 9767768 10365054
opposite vertices 771539 9767766
some tetrahedra occupy the same volume and that couldn't be fixed

Does anyone knows how to solve this?

Many thanks in advance,
Edoardo

Cells occupy same volume

Hello ,

I am also facing same issue.

There are some number of cells which are occupying Same volume, when I am generating unstructured grid with prism layers in ICEM .

Please give me some suggestions.

Thank you in advance,

Radzee

Hello,

Could you post an image of your mesh with these elements highlighted? Hard to help without an image.

How to do that

I have got this error, Sharing the screenshot here.

After saving my project I did mesh check and there was no error.
How can I get all error elements in one subset to click the shot???

And what if there is no error highlighted in the mesh check then shall I move forward?

Thank you for responding me,

Hello,

You can check out this thread: https://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/an...er-issues.html
Some key points:
Without a picture of your actual mesh, some general advice is to use element sizes that are similar to the region of the prism and tetra parts.
Also when doing smoothing operations, don't smooth all elements together right away. Try first smooting tetra, tri and penta. Then freeze those and smooth quad, pyra. Finally you can smooth all together.

From your mesh checks, deselect all checks, except the surface orientation errors, and press OK.
This allows you to find all elements with errors. Then you should put them in a subset.

By only showing these elements you can see where the problems occur. Probably you need to change your geometry locally, or set local refinement and remesh.

Alternatively, you can delete all nodes in the subset. Then you have to recheck your mesh on uncovered faces, repair these leaving you with a hole in your mesh. Not sure if you can get away with this.

About prism layer issues

Yes did check that post ,

I will try that out. Also in my cases one new thing came "mesh is inverted and not saved" so that made me confused

Thank you for your response.

Thank you for your response.

Yes, I am hoping after you perform those steps, the mesh will not be inverted and will save.

Keep us updated and let us know what (if anything) worked for you.

Refinement at those places locally is working as a solution to this problem.
