Inflation layer mesh quality

3 Attachment(s)
Hi everyone.

I have a problem where I'm meshing a delta wing, looking at vortex lift. I'm using the inflation layers to get Y+=1. The problem is my orthogonal mesh quality in the inflation is awful. Is there a way to conserve quality while keep the Y+=1 Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated.

update: I found out the reason for the poor quality is the fact that the end points of the inflation layer is fixed at both ends. I need a 2 stage boundary condition around the wing

Care to elaborate?

Hi Nick.

Would you mind expanding a bit on your solution? I am having the same inflation issues at the tip of my aerofoil.

Thanks,
Erwin

Hi Erwin

I created a split in mesh which aligned with the sharp leading edge. The effect was that instead of the all 5 inflation layer cells having to all converge on the leading edge, they could then spread themselves out appropriately which gave me better mesh quality.

This only worked because of the symmetry of my airfoil. If yours isn't symmetrical like mine, you might have to do something more complex. If you can attach a picture of what you are trying to mesh I might be able to help.
