Meshing and simulation of centrifugal compressor

Dear All

As usual, I am going to show you here new technique (not really new :p) of handling centrifugal compressor from geometry to final post processed results.

Aside from the setup of problem in CFX-Pre, solving in in CFX-solver and post processing results in CFD-post, the main problem is or the biggest hurdle is to convert the centrifugal compressor (CC) geometry usually provided in CAD format (solidworks, creo parametric etc or even in IGES, step or parasolid format with all manufacturing details. To further complicate the problem casing is often not modeled and therefore not included in your geometry package from CAD group at office.

Before the availability of design modeler advance modeling techniques for preparing geometry for analysis, the task of converting geometry to turbogrid file was cumbersome and most complicated task.

Now the main task is to get the Turbogrid files (hub.tur, shroud.tur and profiel.tur) directly from cad model which is subject of this thread and blog as well, though I have yet not discussed the details of whole procedure but just presented the high lights. To see how task can be completed read here

Very interesting. I am working on a similar simulation too but instead of having a cad file I have a set of coordinates and I am using bladegen to export surfaces to TGrid. I agree with you about the consistency issue, I had to manually extrapolate points to complete my surfaces.

how did you get the turbgrid files from your cad model??

I don't have CAD files. I only have coordinates defining the blade, hub and shroud in a raw text file. I am using Bladegen to produce the curves and exporting them to turbogrid.
