I created a 2d airfoil and an area around it following this tutorial:
https://confluence.cornell.edu/displ...Airfoil+-+Mesh For some reason my mesh looks like the photo attached. It should look like the photo in the tutorial. I am new to Ansys so any help would be greatly appreciated. Let me know if I can provide any additional information |

It looks like you didn't split your geometry properly into 4 sub-surfaces. The "mapped face meshing" method has been deactivated as well. If you upload the .agdb file I can have a look.

I think I did split it into 4 surfaces, but I have uploaded the geometry file. I will also upload the workbench file if you need to look at anything in that. Thanks for the reply. The files should be in the db link below. Let me know if there are any problems opening it.

Luke, you're trying to apply a sharp trailing edge C-grid method to a round trailing edge. If you have a closer look at your trailing edge you will see by yourself that you made a mistake with the projections.
Edit: look near the trailing edge area (see picture) Last edited by Gweher; November 5, 2014 at 05:20. |

Please excuse my ignorance, this is my first time using Ansys. What exactly do I need to change? I am unsure what the picture is showing. Do I just need to change something in the geometry file?

Well depending on the trailing edge configuration of your airfoil you need different blocking strategies. Please see Simon's tutorial on 2d airfoil mesh generation.

Okay, thank you very much. I will watch that tutorial and try again. Do you recommend using ICEM rather than the meshing tool in workbench? I was having problems generating the geometry in ICEM.
So basically instead of those 4 sections I made I need to make different sections that are different shapes and it should work? for example I could do a small circle around the airfoil then make a larger box around that circle? |

ICEM is a powerful meshing tool, if you have the choice I would pick ICEM rather than AM.
