Surfaces with high curvature

Dear all,

Recently, I am working on a blood pump project. The pump is centrifugal type with highly curved surfaces. Hence, when I import the IGES file, created by SOLIDWORKS, into the ICEM and even after the geometry repairing (making all curves as red line which mean the shared edge of two surfaces), the surfaces do not match their own curves at their boundary (and very small gaps are visible between the surfaces and their curves at their edges, especially in the highly curved areas).

Therefore, later when I create the blocks and Hexa mesh, during the CFD solution, I face strange results such as blood velocity of 1800 m/s!!!!!

My question is if there is a proper method for generating these kind of surfaces or geometry repair or...

I highly appreciate your favour.

Regards,

Hey

I haven't experience with ICEM I'm using ANSYS meshing
But I suggest you for import solidworks CADs use sldprt and sldasm formats!

Dear Amin,

what do you mean by ANSYS meshing?...
How to do that? is it an easy way?
I am not forced to use ICEM but I want to have a Hexa hedral mesh in which I can control the number of nodes along all curves, which is possible in ICEM.

Do you have any other solution for what I need?

Ansys meshing is a grid generator like gambit and ICEM
It's available in ansys as "mesh"
I guess the solidworks export format is reason of problem! Check it with another format...

I tried to install the Ansys meshing...but I could not find it in Ansys package...see the photo plz

If you install ansys you will find ansys meshing in "components system" tab as mesh!
I suggest you before switching from ICEM to ANSYS meshing check your model with another import format in ICEM! Maybe it solves your problem!

Hi Mohammad,

Once you have installed Ansys, Open Ansys Workbench.
On the left hand side you will find "ToolBox" and Under that "Component system". In this component system you can find "Geometry" and "Mesh" both.

You can create Geometry from scratch of import your geometry and try to fix it.

Under Mesh, you can control type of element and thr sizing, skewness etc according to your need.

Hope it helps.

Cheers

Dear Amin, Dear Kapi

To solve the problem of high curvature, I imported my solidworks file into the ANSYS MESHING. And the geometry seem perfectly ok. Then, I gave names to the parts and I started to learn meshing the model according to (http://www.arc.vt.edu/ansys_help/flu...7100028.8.html)

In the example presented in the website, the mesh is tetra. However, I am looking for learning hexa meshing.
I want to know if you have some useful tutorial pdf file or link address.

Best wishes

Hi Mohammad,

When you right click on mesh it gives option to Insert "Method" just like "Sizing" which is by default Automatic.
Once you have selected body, click and choose different type of meshing from the drop down menu as per your preference.
Also, go to help section in the mesh and read about the different type of mesh, it should give you lot of ideas about them.

Hope it helps

Cheers
Kapi

For inflation I suggest this way:
- Right click on model and select inflation
- select the body for geometry
- select the faces you want for inflation in boundary tab
- edit other parameers
