I am just beginning to learn ICEM CFD for a very particular reason. I need to perform CFD analysis on multiple parametrically related geometries. I want to create a geometry, mesh it once (manually), import to Fluent, run analysis then have the geometry change automatically based on a parametric dimension table (hence having the mesh automatically regenerate), import, analyze, repeat... -Since I am completely new to the software I would like to find out if my goal is even possible before I dive in too deep. I do have Workbench if that is a necessary tool.

Hi dcavalie,

I am not sure how to do it in fluent.
The following link should help you get the idea how to do it tho.

Hope it helps

Thanks, Kapi. It seems that if I create my geometry from scratch from within Workbench I can then grid it there, too, and run a parametric study using Fluent from within Workbench. My question is: how does gridding in Workbench compare to gridding in ICEM? Are they even comparable? Does ICEM blow-away Workbench because it's a stand alone mesh generator?

Thx

Hi dcavalie,

I dont know much about ICEM, so I will leave it to experts to comment on your query.

Hi,

I've used Icem to perform an automate mesh during this fall. It's possible but hard if you have complex geometry, if possible divide your geometry in simple sub-domain, make an automate script for each one of them and then merge the mesh together in either ICEM (the file) or Fluent/CFX.
