Boolean operation failed

Hi everyone,
I'm in need of urgent help pls. I tried creating a boolean subtraction, i.e, to subtract the cylinder surface from the rectangular domain as in the picture below, but it didn't work. Could someone explain how I could do this. Thanks Attachment 37680 |

do you set correct setup for boolean setting? what is target and tool bodies!? |

Yes, I did. The target body is the rectangle's surface body, and the tool body the cylinder's. I think the problem is, because the cylinder rests on the rectangle it cannot subtract. Is there any other way I can perform flow over a cylinder with that setup without performing a boolean operation. Thanks for your kind help. |

the problem cud be that both are sharing same surface!
Try to make separate part for each and then Boolean it. also can you check what error it is giving when you are trying to Boolean it? |

your sketch is simple! you can draw all of them in one part! without boolean or cut material! draw your rectangle and circle in one part and use "trim".

Hi Amin,
I don't understand. Is the use of trim not applicable to lines? Well, I tried it as suggested but it trimmed off the lines of the circle. I want to remove the circular surface from the rectangle, but it results to 0 thickness where the circle intersects with the rectangle. Hence the error message of non-manifold body. I am sure there is a way around this, which I don't know. Regards. |

the problem solved! there are different ways to design this sketch a simple way: draw main rectangle with these dimensions: 600*210 mm (20 mm below the x axis) draw the circle: R=20mm do a boolean draw a fake rectangle from tangent to the circle ( 10 mm below the x axis) subtract fake rectangle from main rectangle |
