Hello CFD Onliners,

Hope you are going well with your respective projects.

I've been working with a SAE notchback reference model with 20 degree. backlight angle. The current mesh was created by covering the diffuser section with planar surfaces, then starting with 2D surface meshes and extruding and converting to a 3D mesh. This was then mirrored about the longitudinal plane of the car model and led to 828 blocks. The current required file output is CGNS for our in-house CFD solver.

Now I'd like do some simulations with the actual diffuser to understand how it alters the flow in the wake of the car. Here are the main challenges faced -
a) The index control for this mesh doesn't work very well to isolate the bottom-rear of the car so that the lower blocks can be split.
b) Finding a block layout and topology that doesn't lead to high levels of skewness and gigantic aspect ratios or a Y-block for the diffuser section.

I'd really like to include the diffuser and I realised that going back to the half-car model to the pre-mesh stage and then modifying the existing blocks is the only way. Then I plan to mirror the final mesh prior to CGNS export.
