importing a 2D geometry into geometry modeler

Hello All
I'm doing 2D fluid analyses on a nozzle with a varying shape. In order to switch shape parameters fast (such as size of inlet and outlet, radian of nozzle wall, etc) I would like to make 2D drawings using solidworks (or autoCAD) and import the 2D geometry into ansys workbench and mesh it directly. However, ansys is keep showing me "attach failed" error message. I tried different format and also changed setting in CAD configuration manger but still not working. Has anyone got similar problems? Are there any way I can import a 2D geometry from outside? Thanks for any help! |

Thank you for reply. I actually read several thread with similar problems. The issue is, I have defined the geometry modeler to do 2D analyses, but there are still error messages coming out. I really just want to import very simple 2D .SLDPRT files (should be simpler than most of the other problems about geometry import).

Kapi is right, there are a ton of posts related to this topic, I especially answered the exact same question not longer than 2 weeks ago :
http://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/ans...r-meshing.html It is not only a problem of setting the analysis type to 2D, you also need to create your 2D sketch in the XY plane. Please use the search function and dont just tell that you didn't find the answer because this topic has been treated a 1000 times. Have a nice day |

Thanks man, did u tried to use Solidwork? (When I posted this question I don't have access to AutoCAD) I posted this question last year and only received some non-useful reply, I did try many methods obtained from the previous discussions in this forum and none of them is working so I finally gave up and used the draw tools provided in ANSYS. I'm done with this question already but I'm still interested in knowing how to import 2D geometry from solidwork into ANSYS.

@kjy1989 sorry! I don't use Solid works. I use Auto cad for making geometry. If you use Auto cad, follow my video. I have shown how to import.

Hey Kjy1989 you are importing a part file (SLTPRT)as you have mentioned, Sorry to say but Ansys doesn't import part file whether it's from CATIA or SOLIDWORKS . Save it as IGES or STL.
Alternative: You can go to the sketching option in design modular of Ansys an go to construct point create the required point and constrain them with desired dimension the connect the points with line now you have developed your nozzle Is this helpful???
