High Aspect Ratio Geometry

I am trying to mesh a flow channel that is 0.5mm wide, 0.1mm high, and 7mm long. This main channel is fed by two smaller inlets, each carrying a different aqueous solution. The flow is slow and laminar, Re~1. I have diffusion of species with D~10^-10 m^2/s and one chemical reaction.

I went through mesh refinement in each direction individually (750 along the 7mm dimension, 110 along the 0.5mm dimension, and 18 along the 0.1mm dimension) increasing the number of cells in each dimension using edge sizing while holding the others constant and monitoring profiles of interest. When I apply the proper number of cells to each edge simultaneously, the domain has 2.7 million cells. This is problematic because I have the academic license and am limited to 500k cells.

I expect there to be the largest gradients in the initial mixing region where the two streams meet, and was thinking of having a finer mesh in this region and then getting coarser as I move down the channel. This however results in some high aspect ratio cells at the end of the channel.

Does this seem like a reasonable course of action, and does anyone have any suggestions for how to implement this? I have tried using a sphere of influence sizing in the initial mixing region but was having trouble with that.
