Flashfake is on a distinguished road
Hey All,

I have posted this in the Fluent Sub-Forum too, but I want to post it here as it is regarding meshing and the formation of prism inflation layers.

I am using ANSYS 16.2, but it seem to be on other versions too.
When trying to create prism mesh on a wrapped object, I get the following error:

"Prism Meshing is not supported for face zones of mesh objects"

The only way that I seem to be able to create the prisms is to go off an object based surface. The issue is that object based surfaces cannot selected in in the automesh.

My procedure to getting to this point is as follows:
  1. import the geometry. (I use a tolerance of 0.01m and have import CAD curvature on) Import name-selection: on
  2. make a material point for the fluid and change boundary types to be correct. Any surface names that I need to change I'll do here too.
  3. I generate a size field with relevant curvature, boi and proximity settings.
  4. I then wrap the object to see what the mesh looks like and identify any locations that I might have missed or where I could relax the size-functions around.
  5. After I am happy, I export the size-function. (just in case and I use it for re-importing geometry if needed)
  6. I select automesh and select the wrapped object (its also the only object to select)
  7. Under grow prisms, I select zone-specific. Click on 'set' next-door and orient the growth based of the material point.
  8. I set all my conditions under growth and click apply.
  9. If I click create, the following error pops up: "Prism Meshing is not supported for face zones of mesh objects"
  10. I do not click create, however I feel that is where the issue lies.
  11. I set up the tet volume fill using size-field.
  12. Hit apply in the automesh
  13. click mesh. The following error comes up: "Apply zone specific prisms on at least one of the face zones of selected object."
I clearly already have as it is in _prism_fluid group that was created earlier in grow prisms.

Any assistance would be vastly appreciated.
I would like to know what I am doing wrong, I really do not understand what the error could be from.

Is it an import setting? I have tried a few options with no avail. Some naturally do not keep the names for the faces etc, however the issue still persists.

Thanks for any help that you can give in advance.
