Pro E Imports in Gambit
I need to simulate the flow of water through a Deaerator whose internal chamber consists of a fine copper wire mesh.
I have modelled the deaerator on Pro E Wildfire Version 2.0 and subsequently imported it on Gambit (as a STEP file) following the instructions as per Tutorial 13. However, I am experiencing some problems as some volumes seem to have disappeared during the clean up process. Therefore, does anyone have any idea as to the best procedure when using Pro E Inmports in Gambit? Thanks Andrew |

I'm used importing step file form proe, without any problem. BUT I never use the clean up tool (it is more oriented for IGES). Step File has good quality. What is the problem with your native step file? |
use file import cad to use direct read option. may go virtual (could heal back anyway) but should allow gambit to see model as proe sees it. Also you can use the proe cad connection tool and transfer via translation or direct read as detailed above.

Thanks for your reply... actually it is the Gambit tutorial 12 that I used, therefore, I merged faces, and cleaned short edges and small faces, as I assumed that such actions would aid the meshing process. It was in this instance that model volumes were lost.
However, from your reactions it seems that these actions are not necessary. Therfore, after import can I commence the meshing procedure directly? |

I am having problems again with a Pro E Import. This time this is a vertical cylinder with to horizontal water input and exit ports, having a copper mesh in the centre.
I need to mesh the internal cylinder volume (excluding the copper mesh volume) thus to reflect the fow of water in this cylinder. However, I did not manage to define this simple internal volume as Pro E simply recognises the volume of the cylinder wall and copper mesh only. (What is need the the internal cylinder volume less the volume occupied by the mesh) Any ideas as to how the internal volume could be defined? (I also tried to recreate the cylinder in Gambit around the copper mesh (pro E Import) but then I could not subtract the mesh from this volume!!) |

The terminal window should be the shell (unix) or the MSDOS window for windows (start>run>cmd)
But if you hae trouble using this method you may just import your geometry in STEP file (export from ProE, import within Gambit) |

Forget the direct CAD import.
From ProE export the part as STEP file Open Gambit and import the STEP File. Then continue the tutorials |
oh thank you.Just for the curiosity,can we straight away transfer the model we built in Pro ENGINEER to FLUENT and then we mesh it in FLUENT?

not in Fluent, but in Gambit.
But it is not direct and you need to extract the fluid domain (ProE model is a solid domain) |
Thank you mAx for your guidance.I was able to complete my task on the schedule.My task is to examine the lift,drag and the pitching moment coefficient on the NACA 0012 aerofoil.After I complete my simulation,the values I get for my lift and drag coefficient from the FLUENT are quite reasonable.But for my pitching moment coefficient the values range from -442 something to 1592 something which is too high.Is there any way to get the value right?The aerofoil that I used for analysis is 2D.

For two dimensional flows, only the moment vector about the z-coordinate axis exists.

oh I am sorry about that mAx.currently I am investigating the dispersion of particle in a closed room with ceiling supply and exhaust.It is a 3D model where there is a trapezium inside which symbolic a human.The problem I am facing now is the face that I created for the ceiling and exhaust are virtual face.when I transfer my meshed model into FLUENT.FLUENT can not detect the ceiling supply and exhaust.any solution for this?
GAMBIT display this message boundary entity ceiling supply and exhaust do not contain any valid entity and is not written. |
the mentionned boundary conditions are not properly mesehd, and therefore not exported.
You have to fix this issue for export all your domain (incl. this BC) |
