Is your faceted geometry closed? It will need to be closed. I don't know if GAMBIT has the required repair tools, but other ANSYS Meshing tools do.
Do you also have access to ICEM CFD? If so, you could repair the facets and mesh it there. ICEM CFD is very good for medical scan data... Do you have access to TGrid? You may be able to do the repairs in TGrid also. Import it as a mesh and use the diagnostics to locate (and then repair) all the single and multiple edges, or import it as a faceted geometry and use the shrinkwrapper to get a nice surface mesh. Once you close all the single (and remove multiple) edges from the model, it will be a nice volume model and GAMBIT should take it (or you could just finish up the volume meshing in ICEM CFD or TGrid). |

Anyway, I was already faced to same problem while importing STEP file. The issue was, that my volume in ProE didn't have any mass properties. Once you imported your STL file, did you try to stitch faces for creating a volume?
