HEY,

I'm trying to write an output file for StarCD version 4.08
But i always get this problem.

"Error: running ansys icemcfd -star-4 Interface vers.11.0.1
Error exit: this interface only supports 3d meshes!
Error in translation...
child process exited abnormally"

Do you have any idea to solve this problem?

Thank you very much,

Johannes

Hi,

as far as i know (Star 3.xx) you need a 3D mesh for STAR, it cannot handle 2d meshes.

So do your 2d mesh in ICEM and extrude it one layer, so you receive a smiple 3d mesh. This can be exported to STAR and can be calculated as a 2d mesh.

Regards
xamo

STAR-CD 3.2 supports 2D meshes, but apparently not STAR-4. Try using the STAR-CD 3.2 format which STAR-4 can probably read...

To be clear, the problem is with the ICEM CFD output interface, Star-4 should be able to support a 2D mesh if writen out from ICEM CFD in STAR 3.2 format.

Hi,

You can read in 2d Meshes in Star 3 and Star 4. But you only will have 2D shells in STAR. You can have a look at them and move them but for a calculation in Star you need a 3D mesh.

Correct me if i I am wrong.

Regard xamo

I havn't been a regular STAR CD user for about 8 years, (Using Fluent and CFX since then) so you may be right. I just knew they could read the format, so I was giving the benefit of the doubt.

If Xamo is right about StarCD, then I agree that extruding the 2D mesh into a single cell thick 3D model is the best plan. That is how I would do it for CFX.
