Airfoil meshing

Hi:

I am learning ICEM CFD and one of my first tasks is to generate a C-grid around an airfoil. I am trying to create a nice blocking scheme with an O-grid to capture the geometry with a nice boundary layer around it. However, so far all my attemtps have failed. I always get different kind of problems with the grid.

Could anyone help me and provide me an idea or step-by-step approach to create C-grids with ICEM CFD, please?

I have never done C-grids before. I have experience using gambit, where I usually do circular grids around airfoils. I have already completed all the ICEM tutorials, so I am familiar with the tools in the program.

Thanks

Where are you from? contact me. I talk spanish and I can help you out, with a previous airfoil project I worked. Cheers Santiago.

I found it also not that easy to do. But this is how I did the blocking of it in the end.

This was how we made it:

Re: Airfoil meshing

That looks OK. Can I see it zoomed in on the airfoil?

Nicely done. :D

Hello,

I also try to create a C-Mesh, with a similar strategy, but each time I export the mesh (using CFX4) there is a very tiny gap at the leading edge. When I associated the two vertices ahead of the airfoil to one point (5m away from the leading edge), the exporting failed.
When I overlapped the verticies manually using "move vertex" the gap does not disappear and neither for moving both vertices using the coordinate system.

Do you have any suggestion for me?

can u show me step by step, blocking mesh scheme?

see u later, regards

Sorry Santiago....
Can you explain step by step how do you create the blocks for the mesh ???

Thx for all...

I FINALLY made a movie to answer this frequently asked question

I FINALLY made a "how to" movie to answer this frequently asked question, well three parts actually.

They are on the ANSYS YouTube site...

I know it is late, but I hope it helps...
