Importing AutoCad Lt dwg file into Workbench

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone can help me. I am trying to import a 2D drawing I created using AutoCad Lt into ANSYS 12 workbench so as I can mesh it and do a 2D fluid flow analyse in Fluent. Workbench recognizes the dwg file but when I import it and try to mesh it I get the following error "Unable to attach geometry, PlugInError: Unable to start CAD system"

Does anyone have any ideas.

I think it is not a reader, it is a translator that requires an installed and licensed version of autocad to provide the translation libraries... I am not sure if it works with autocad lt or not.

If you do not have autocad on the machine, then perhaps you should try a neutral format (IGES, Step, etc.).

If you do have autocad installed, then perhaps you didn't set things up correctly and should run the installer again to configure your autocad connection...

Hi,

I have AutoCAD 2007 installed but am having pretty much the same problem as A_Perse. I can't seem to import the 2D drawing into ANSYS 11 workbench. PSYMN, you mentioned that my AutoCAD connections may not be set up correctly. AutoCAD was installed after ANSYS but I was prompted to configure connections. Could you explain further please?

Hi Neil,

I found a solution to my problem which might help you. What I did was to import the dwg file into Pro Engineer and save it as a part file (.prt). Then importing the .prt file into workbench is fairly easy.

Yes, sorry guys, I have seen it work with autocad, but I don't have it installed on my machine and am not familiar enough with it to debug across the internet.

If someone has access to tech support, perhaps they could help you out and then you could post the solution here.
