Hi zalho,
In some ver of GAMBIT, EXCEED can run simultaneous When we active GAMBIT. But in some version, you must open EXCEED Manually file before you open GAMBIT.
Hope it helps

@Zalho

Hi, hope you have succeeded in running gambit.?
If not please try the procedure below. I had xactly the same problem. It easily worked for me as per this procedure.

(1) Start > Hummingbird Connectivity > Exceed > Exceed (Appln will open and u will see Exceed on task bar)

(2) R-click (Exceed on task bar) > Tools > Session Startup > New (Untitled X-session window will open)

(3) Click Directory.. > Select the folder where you have installed Gambit(generally the folder is Fluent.Inc) > Select gambit2.3.16 > OK

(4) Click New Program > Select Windows App > OK (Untitled Wstart window will open)

(5) Click Browse > Select Gambit ".exe" file > Select Run : Normal Mode > Run! (this will launch gambit application successfully)

(6) Set the working directory in the application > Run
(Gambit is launched / runs successful)

I am facing the same problem as described above. I tried to follow the procedure posted by sanket (oxidizing agent)......
currently I am using gambit 2.4.6 & Hummingbird 11.0 with exceed 6.0 on 32 bit machine. The solution suggested by sanket, i followed but wasn't able to get 3rd & 4th step, which Directory it was asking about. I was just able to open new Xsession on Gambit only.

i have been try to install Gambit so many times,,,but unable to get solution. Please someone help me & i am sorry if I am doing any silly mistake.

@ Devesh

U have to give the path of the folder where Gambit is installed. When you click ok then select Gambit.exe file as application which is to be opened using Exceed.

Cheers

Hi sanket,

Thanks for your reply. I stuckup at 2nd point, where you open Exceed (Right click)-->session start-->new......here its asking any .xs file.....so I am not very clear about this 2nd step.:(

so i am not able to resolve 2nd step as well unable to move for 3rd & 4th step also. Which directory path you were telling about....

please, your suggestions would be really appreciable.

thanks alot....

Hi..
I got your problem.
Do as I say Now.
Start Exceed.
RClick on exceed on task bar. > Tools > "Session Startup" > New
Click the "Directory" tab and follow the rest of the procedure.
Set the path of directory the same where Gambit is installed.
Rest all is the same as in the post.

Cheers.

@ Devesh

What u seem to have done is
RClick on Exceed > Client Startup > New...
Then only the .xs file required, but it is only used to restore the client session closed previously.

Correct me if Im wrong.(I hope Im not )

:confused::mad::eek:

For step 1 and 2 ery clear and very easy but for

Step 3 it isn’t clear at all, let me say it’s a nightmare

After step 1 and 2 we have an opened Untitled X-session window

Click the "Directory" Where is the "Directory" I don’t see it any where ? can you be more explicit. Is it in the opened Untitled X-session window or have I to make a new R click ? Help!!!

Step (4) Click New Program > where hae I to do that in the window below or I make a new R click ????

Make life easier for us it’s too complicated!

Thanks in advance for your help.

@ All

Hey Guys,

I sincerely apologize for a very silly mistake (from my side) in interpreting all your problems.

I have uploaded the procedure compatible only for HummingBird / Exceed 9.0 and not Exceed 6.0 or any other combination. However I'll work out the same for other versions soon and upload the correct procedure.

I'm very sorry I couldnt figure this out very soon. Please excuse for the inconvenience.

Apologies again.

Gambit

Dear all,

Just have a few questions I was hoping you could help me with:

1) Is Gambit still available? As far as I know it was discontinued by ANSYS, and the licences no longer work.

2) How did you managed to keep it working? Was Gambit made available?

3) In case it is not available, is there any way to read the database files (*.dbs) with any other program?

I used Gambit for a few years and I am struggling to use a different software to produce a mesh (*.msh) file to use with Fluent.
Thank you.

Hey..

"1) Is Gambit still available? As far as I know it was discontinued by ANSYS, and the licences no longer work.
2) How did you managed to keep it working? Was Gambit made available?
"
I have no idea about this.As for my posts here, I have encountered such problems while handling these packages in an educational institute giving training in CFD.We still are using Fluent 6 Gambit 2.3.16 ANSYS ICEM CFD 10
ANSYS CFX 10.
The later versions might have been modified without Gambit license.

"3) In case it is not available, is there any way to read the database files (*.dbs) with any other program?"
Again I dont know about this. However now the question has been pooped out I'll search for the same.

Cheers.

Thank you Sanket,

I am using ANSYS 12 (Academic Licence) and Gambit is definitely not part of the package. Unfortunately for me, the geometry-meshing-boundary conditions set up procedure seems to be much different when using this latest package. I was simply to used to the "Gambit way of thinking"!
I am trying to get the work done with ICEM CFD which seems to be a very interesting tool, with lots of capabilities.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Cheers!

Hi, I'm working with Ansys Workbench 12.0 design modeler, building geometries there. But I need to export these geometries to Gambit 2.4.6 for the meshing y to make a multiblock grid and then export the mesh to ansys fluent 12.0. is this possible?. can I to install Ansys gambit 2.4.6 with the ANSYS 12.0 12.0 together?

Open shell

hi
how can I make an open shell (Cube) in gambit?
the fluid goes out from the upper face and I don't want to define any boundary conditions on the upper face.
can I create a face close to the upper face of Cube and then subtract them?
so the upper face is very thin but the cube is open from top
